Get to Know
Dr. Joey Lohse, DDS

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Lohse always knew he wanted to work in healthcare, but dentistry stood out to him early on. He loved the blend of science, hands on problem solving, and the chance to make a real difference in someone’s overall health. What ultimately pushed him toward dentistry, though, were the stories he heard from people who had negative or intimidating dental experiences. Dr. Lohse wants to be the kind of dentist who helps change that—someone who creates a positive, comfortable environment for patients who may have put off care because of fear or past experiences. Helping people feel safe, understood, and confident in their oral health is what motivates Dr. Lohse every day.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Lohse earned his BA in Biology–Health Professions from Northwestern College before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Lohse loves spending time outdoors—whether that’s hiking, being out on the water, or riding his bike around Minnesota’s trails. Dr. Lohse is married to his wife Ally, who is a school social worker in the White Bear Lake District. They have a labradoodle together who keeps life fun and active. Staying active and enjoying nature helps Dr. Lohse and his family recharge and bring his best energy back to the office.
